What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is 100% safe. It's a naturally occurring phenomenon, a bit like a day dream. Hypnosis was discovered hundreds of years ago and has been used as a tool to help millions of people around the world.
Hypnosis is not sleep.
In fact when you are in hypnosis you are fully awake and completely aware of your surroundings and what is being said to you. During hypnosis you are in complete control and can come out of hypnosis whenever you want, just like in a day dream.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the technique of using the powerful positive suggestions to bring about changes in the subconscious mind whilst a person is in hypnosis.
These changes in our thinking patterns then bring about changes in our behaviour. You can also use hypnotherapy to discover the root cause of a problem the uncovering of which, alters the memory and emotions attached to it.
Hypnotherapy isnt magic - no hypnotherapist has a magic wand - but it is an amazing tool for personal transformation and growth as long as you really want to change.
Most clients tell me they have tried everything to effect the change on their own with willpower or determination but for some reason have failed.
Willpower comes from the conscious mind and often doesn't work because a change hasn't taken place in the subconscious mind. Our subconscious mind is where we control our emotions and it is where our memories and learned behaviour is 'stored'. It is this part which has to change for our behaviours and physical state to change.
For example, if you are a client who consciously wants to overcome your stress or anxiety you may try everything you consciously can to do it, but you probably will still fail as long as your subconscious mind retains this terror and prevents you from succeeding.
Change in behaviour can only be made by reprogramming the subconscious so that deep-seated instincts and beliefs are abandoned or changed.
How Effective is Hypnotherapy?
Will I Lose Control?
No, infact you will stay very much in control as hypnotherapy teaches you how to control your breathing, your heartbeat, your emotions and your blood pressure and you only take on the suggestions that are acceptable to you. You are fully aware of what is going on and you are completely in control.
What happens during a Hypnotherapy Session?
On arrival we ask that you complete a basic questionnaire and then have a disscusion with Jo about how hypnotherapy can help you with your particular issue.
Once your goals have been outlined and you are ready to be begin you are asked to sit in the recliner and once you are ready to go into hypnosis then the process can begin.
Using relaxing breathing techniques the 'Trance' or dream like state, is created and then depending on your required goals a number of therapeutic techniques are used and powerful suggestions are given to your subconscious. These suggestions create a change in your emotional responses towards the unwanted behaviour.
When the session is over and you are bought out of hypnosis, you will be able to remember everything and will be fully aware of all that happened during the session.
How Many Sessions will I Need?
It does depend on each client and the presenting condition however, 3 - 6 sessions is generally all that is required in order to achieve meaningful results.
